Though the live auction industry held at nearly even with 2007 figures for sales of goods and services, one of the five sectors of growth in the auction industry was in charity auctions. Charity auctions raised $16.3 billion dollars in 2008. Charity auctions continue to grow throughout the country. For the year 2008, approximately $268.4 billion dollars in goods and services was sold at auction in the United States.
